4iG Group partners with Ericsson to develop future 5G network in Albania
4iG Group investment valued 50 million Euro in mobile network equipment for One Albania after having secured essential frequencies on state spectrum auction
4iG Group, the leading ICT company of Hungary and the Western Balkans, entered a partnership with Ericsson for the deployment of a high-performing mobile network in Albania. The future infrastructure investment is based on the 5G frequencies recently acquired by One Albania, subsidiary of 4iG.
One Albania became the first operator in the country to launch commercial 5G services on 25 November 2024. The new frequencies were acquired for 5.4 million EUR on a competitive spectrum auction, and the brand new 5G package is to be put into full use by investing in Ericsson network equipment in the next years. This development is fully in line with the Hungarian 4iG Group pro-investment strategy in Albania and the Western Balkans region.
“It is another long-lasting journey we start today with Ericsson that has been a long-time technology partner in Albania. 4iG Group is a regional infocommuncations group with strong presence in the Western Balkan region. Albania is one of our flagship markets, therefore we are to take legal and political aspects into account, when it comes to any major strategic decisions” – said Péter Fekete, CEO of 4iG Group.
”This agreement highlights Ericsson’s dedication to advancing 5G innovation in the country. Through 5G deployment, we are enabling faster, more reliable, and sustainable connectivity, laying the foundation for next-generation services. As the demand for high-performing networks grows, our partnership with One Albania, a subsidiary of 4iG Group, will support the evolving needs of both consumers and businesses.” – said Antonio Passarella, Head of Western Balkans, Ericsson.
The network investment valued over 50 million EUR starts with ensuring a comprehensive, high-capacity 5G network coverage
across key strategic areas, like major ports and airports, industrial zones, critical hospital areas in Tirana, and the most
visited coastal hotspots as well. It continues with providing high-capacity midband 5G coverage to all cities of Albania within
the year 2028 and reaching 85% of population coverage by end of 2030.
The scope of the deal between 4iG Group and Ericsson includes mobile radio access and core network investments, providing
the most advanced 5G Stand Alone (5G SA) technology. Thanks to the cooperation with Ericsson and 4iG Group's investments so
far, One Albania has ranked as best mobile network based on independent benchmarks for many years. The value and the high
standard of investments show 4iG Group’s long-term commitment to the country and its telecommunications market. The Albanian
subsidiary also pushes innovation and investments on fixed broadband front and launched 10 Gbit fibre broadband in November
2024.
