Digitalization has appeared in all areas of the functioning of the economy and society, and in the 21st century it spans the entire national economy. Digitalization makes business segments such as industrial production or agriculture more efficient, as it increases labor productivity, flexibility, predictability and security, among others, but also significantly facilitates the operation of public, administrative tasks and services as a result.

The impact of the digitalization of public administration on citizens and businesses is that more and more administrative processes are becoming available electronically via the Internet. In addition –according to strict data protection regulations – the necessary data of databases stored by the State and its institutions can be made digitally accessible by society and thus exploitable.

New electronic administration services can be of real benefit to society if the state digitizes its own processes properly. This modernization covers a wide range of IT layers available in state workflows; it covers the development of network access, machine room runtime environments and appropriate back office applications; it covers the integration of systems in different areas and often the rethinking of processes.

One of the foundations for the efficiency of digitalization is, of course, the training of human resources. Education based on the use of digital tools and applications is now an indispensable condition for acquiring the competences necessary for our time. The key to this is to provide public education and training schools with modern tools and to strengthen the education of digital knowledge and to ensure the digital availability of teaching materials.

Of course, the digital transition also plays a significant role in increasing the efficiency of health care. It was an important step forward in Hungary recently to centralize the eHealth system to create electronic access to information on the health status and treatments of citizens in one place. In addition, the development of the network and hardware capacity of healthcare institutions is taking place with a special focus.
